For Reflection

There are people waiting for us to tell them about salvation through Christ. When God calls us to do something it is because it is time for it to be done. Often we may miss out on God opportunities because we debate whether or not God is telling us to go. Do you seize divine moments or do you miss them because you are trying to convince God that he doesn't have the timing right?

Stephen boldly proclaimed the truth in spite of the consequences. Are you that bold? Then the dude forgave those killing him! Do you forgive others easily or do you hold grudges for little things?

So a few weekends ago we had a garage sale to raise money for missions (Speed the Light, for those who know). It was a ton of work but well worth the payoff. Looking back there is one interaction from the whole weekend I keep coming back to...

I was temporarily the guy you pay for the junk you buy and this lady came up to check out. It was later in the day so our prices were already super low. Anyways this lady proceeds to try to negotiate with me for lower prices. Everyone was doing that so up to this point I'm okay. Then she throws this line out, "Well I am an evangelist. I travel all over speaking. So could you give it to me for cheaper." WHAT! So the fact that you "work for God" is a reason you should get a discount at a sale that 100% of the proceeds are going to support his kingdom. I don't get it. Aren't we on the same team? Shouldn't you be willing to support missions since your life is missions?!

Since then I've been wondering how often I try to use my position at the church to get a perk or bonus. My prayer is that I don't use the Kingdom of God for personal gain. How about you? Do you ever find yourself trying to use God as a bargaining chip in life? Post your thoughts.

In the end I let her have the item for $1 cheaper than we were asking, so if anyone wants to donate a single dollar to make up for it, please feel free.

At the crusade tonight many people came to the altar for prayer. There was a man who looked to be in his 40’s who accepted Christ as Savior. The team got to pray with others for freedom from sin, for healing for marriages, and healing for their bodies. I am so proud of the maturity and boldness we are seeing in our students.

Day Six – Friday

We continued VBS this morning after Angela gave the whole group the most incredible devotion the world as ever heard since Susan’s on Thursday. The children at the VBS have warmed up to our teams and are very open to what we are teaching them. After VBS, lunch, and Andrew’s first nap of the week we blitzed the city with flyers promoting the crusade. Then went to the building we are meeting in to set up. Pastor Oscar and his band held a concert. The main crusades with Steve Skipper (one of the missionaries our church supports) begin tomorrow night.

Day Five – Thursday

Sorry for the late post. Internet has been down today. It rained here from midmorning all through the night. Thank you Dolly. This morning Susan led the devotion for the entire group. She did Ah-Maze-Ing! We are all so proud of here. Then at VBS she led the memory verse game. At the evening service she shared her testimony and God used it powerfully in the lives of those there. She was our all star for the day.

In the morning all the teams did VBS. This evening the group from LFA along with the white team had a service at El Buen Pastor (The Good Shepherd). This is the name of the church where the white team is holding VBS. Andrew spoke for the first time with a translator and the team did a skit and shared personal testimonies.

Day Four - Wednesday

VBS started this morning. Due to some confusion with the printer we had no flyers to pass out and invite kids with. At the White team’s VBS sight (Susan, Daniel, and Andrew) we walked the neighborhood for 20 minutes prior to starting the Vacation Bible School (Escuela Biblica por los ninos) With flyers we were expecting a max of 50 children. We had 62!

At the Red team’s sight (Zachary, Ashton, Angela) kids were waiting outside the church before the team got there. There was lots of excitement for the VBS. Zachary got to share the gospel one on one with a 15 year old. The great part was that he did it in Spanish! Be proud Jim and Lynnette. Ashton began teaching the little girls the dance she learned yesterday.

In the evening the white team blitzed the streets with flyers promoting the crusade this weekend. Steve Skipper will be the evangelist. While we were passing out flyers Daniel walked right into liquor store and invited the worker behind the counter. We are so proud of his courage in sharing Christ.

At the service tonight Ashton and Zachary shared their testimonies with the church. Zachary was part of the sin chair skit.

Hey Generations,

We love all of you so much. We are going to miss being with you tonight, but we are having a great time sharing Jesus in Mexico. Service is going to be great tonight as Mindy continues our series on worship. Oh, and Summer Olympics continue with kickball. Go for the gold and keep praying for us as we are in Mexico. We will see you next week.

Day Three – Tuesday

Our VBS start tomorrow. Our team of 26 will be spread over three different locations around the city of Allende. We are partnering with three local churches and their pastors. This morning we went over our final VBS training sessions. In the afternoon we went back to one of the churches to finish painting their sanctuary chairs. The other team walked the neighborhoods inviting people to the VBS.

What a long day. The team left LFA at 7:30 this morning. We arrived in Allende at 12:30. Crashed at almost 2am. Tomorrow we will be doing some painting at the local churches we are working with.

We got a red light crossing into Mexico. This usually means you pull to the side and they check all of your luggage. When we pulled to the side the border agent asked us where we were going then told us to go on. He didn't check a single bag. If he did it would have taken hours the way we pack. God gave us favor and saved us a long and tedious search process.
